Smart Compass Pro (ver 2.5) manual

Hi. I'm Android boy. Thank you for your visit.

Smart Compass Pro is the 3rd set of Smart Tools suite. It includes 3 tools (Compass, GPS, Metal Detector) and has 4 special features below.

1) Although you turn your device into portrait or landscape mode, the heading is fixed.
2) The Camera's view is used for reality.
3) Metal Detector is included to verify the sensors.
4) GPS is supported.

* Introduction video

① Compass

  - Telescope mode (Camera Zoom)
  - Lensatic compass (pitch and roll)
  - Azimuth types : Degree, mil, Quadrants and Back Azimuth
  - You can turn on/off the camera view at the settings.
  - It supports both Landscape mode and Portrait mode.

* Screen Capture and Share
 : landscape mode
 : portrait mode

 : sharing app list

 : Email and SMS features in the action bar.

* Menu and Setttings

* Background image
  - [Background image] option at the settings shows 50 recent pictures to avoid no response error.
  - If the picture that you want to select does not appear, please rename its name as "compass.png" or "compass.jpg". Then it would appear at the beginning.

* If the compass is not accurate...?
  - The compass accuracy depends on the performance of your sensors exactly. We know that most magnetic sensors are unstable and torchy.

  - Sometimes a leather case with a magnetic "snap" can cause unwanted results. And when the battery status is low, the sensor works poorly.

  - Confirm that the magnetic field is normal. It is about 49μT in nature. If it is out of bounds, initialize the sensor. Point your phone up towards the sky and move it in a figure 8 pattern.

  - I had a Galaxy Ace phone that was 3 years old. It was very inaccurate. To my surprise, it worked perfectly after replacing the battery with new one.

* Acceleration sensor turn On/Off
  - This compass requires many sensors (acceleration sensors, magnetic sensor, orientation sensor) to support many features. When this compass becomes inaccurate, it means that one of your sensors is poor.

  - I had heard that several Motorola devices(Droid X, DROID RAZR, DROID BIONIC...) had this issue. To solve this issue, turn off [Acceleration sensor] option. It makes my app use only an orientation sensor.

* Find your best calibration
  - My compass tool has several options. If all of your sensors are perfect, all options should show the same azimuth. Otherwise, the azimuth will be wrong. I wish that you find your best mode.
   1) Camera : On / Off
   2) Acceleration : On / Off
   3) How to hold your phone : Landscape / Portrait / Flat on a desk.
   ※ For example, Razr's best mode is [Camera On, Acceleration Off, Flat].

② GPS

 - 5 features are supported with GPS
   1) True north
   2) Various Coordinate types
   3) Qibla finder, Car locator
   4) GPS Speedometer
   5) Send SMS and Email
   (Only Email is activated in Smart Tools package due to sensitive permissions)

* Qibla finder / Car locator
  - If you are a muslim, you can use this tool as the Qibla(Mecca) finder.
  - If you are a non-muslim user, you can use it as a car locator.

  - How? When you park your car in the parking lot, press [input location] option at the settings. In order to save current location, [Here] button in it.
    Then you can search the bearing and the distance to your car. You can use this feature as a various destination finder. (home, office, ...)

* Network GPS ??
  - When your phone cannot get your location from GPS satellies in the sky, this compass can get GPS data from your phone carrier. In general, it is called as [Network GPS].

- Newwork GPS is the auxiliary GPS via Wi-Fi, IP-address and 3G(4G). It cannot get the alititude and the error tolerance will occur within 150m - 2.5km.

③ Metal Detector
This app measures magnetic field values using the magnetic sensor that is built into your device. The magnetic field level(EMF) in nature is about 49μT(microtesla) or 490mG (milligauss); 1μT = 10mG. If there is any metal in the area, the strength of the magnetic field should increase. Among other uses, it can be helpful in finding electrical wires in wall and a spade in the ground.

Usage is simple: Just open this app, and move it around; The magnetic field values will constantly fluctuate; See the YouTube video for a demonstration. That's it!

The accuracy depends entirely on the magnetic sensor in your device. Note that the magnetic sensor is affected by electronic equipment (TVs, PCs, etc.) due to electromagnetic waves.

① Green : Magnetic field level in nature within tolerance.
② Blue : Level is too low. The sensor might be weakened due to phone heating and age. You need to cool down your phone.
③ Red : Level is too high. There must be a metal object nearby. If the value is very high(+170μT), a vibration will occur. To stop it, click the stop icon. You can turn on/off the alarm sound at the settings.

* How to calibrate it?
 - Magnetic field level in nature is about 49μT. The calibrate menu change the current value to 49μT.

* FAQ
Q. The compass does not work or says "MAGNETIC Sensor Error".
A. Several devices had no magnetic sensor. Please check your specifications firstly.
    Otherwise, your built-in sensor was out of order.

Q. The compass shows the wrong direction.
A. The reason is that your built-in sensors are unstable and weakened by time.
    In order to initialize them, point your device up towards the sky and move it in a figure 8 motion. If it is not solved, restarting and performing a factory reset will be helpful.
    Finally, touch a magnet near by your phone. This could fix your sensor forcibly.

Q. What is the orange triangle?
A. It denotes the topside of your device. No matter how i hold the compass in portrait or landscape or even cross but it should be in vertical condition.

Q. Can the metal detector find the hidden camera and ghost?
A. If they generate a magnetic(electric) field, this app can search them. Many users used this tool to find the electrical wires in the wall.

Q. Where is the Screenshot or CSV file saved?
A. /sdcard/smart-tools/, /storage/sdcard0/smart-tools/, /mnt/sdcard/smart-tools/, /storage/emulated/0/smart-tools/.
