Hello. I'm Android boy, the chief developer of Smart Tools co,.

Do you know the height of the Statue of Liberty or Tour Eiffel? How do you know them? Maybe by Googling? Now I'll introduce a new rangefinder app.

Though this photos are manipulated, the app can measure them.

I had heard that some math teachers taught this theory to elementary school students.

※ Checklist Diagram
① Stand up!! Don't sit or lie down.

② Firstly, input phone's height and building height.
   Phone's height ≒ your height - 0.3m(1ft), default = 1.5m(4.9ft)
   It means the length from ground to camera lens.

③ Calibrate your device. You can make it accurate (~95% accuracy).

④ The result is not perfect, just for reference.

※ Manual Calibration
There are 10,000+ android devices in the world. They would show different measurements because of various sensor parts. Therefore, I strongly recommend to calibrate your device with known distance.

If the result is longer than actual distance, reduce by 5% at manual calibration. If shorter, increase by 5%.

The app supports auto-calibration menu, too.

After placing the back side of your device against the wall completely, click [Calibrate] button. Do it several times. The menu will find your best calibration.

The app has a green bubble level for accurate measurement. You can run zero-calibration by longclick. If your device is a tablet and the bubble is at the right edge, sensor settings is wrong. Please let me know model number.

Q. It would not work.

A. Does your device have a magnetic sensor (magnetometer) ?

Q. The result is not correct.
A. Please calibrate your device carefully.

Q. The height button does not appear.
A. After measuring the distance of a target, the app activates height function.

A. The distance is always "MAX".
Q. Your phone is aimming above the horizon. Please see checklist diagram and calibrate your device.

Q. How long can it measure? Effective distance?
A. Normally 1-40m. When you are on a structure, you can measure more.

Q. I want to enter 4 ft 5 in as phone's height.
A. The app supports only decimal. Enter 4.4 ft.

Q. Please add "cm" or "inch" unit.
A. The result is not perfect, at least 3-5% off. Smaller units are not efficient.

Smart Magnifier (v1.4) manual

Hello. I'm Android Boy, the chief developer of Smart Tools co.,

I developed this magnifier app just to enrich Smart Tools package. But some users had complained that it was like a rear camera. I can guess that they are the young who have nice eyesight.

When I read small letters written on medicine bottles and batteries, I often got depressed. I could not read them. To me, magnifier is becoming a daily necessity, not a toy. How about you?

Smart Flashlight is in the set 5th of Smart Tools collection. It is using camera LED and screen. I tried to make it simple and easy. Recently, several users are requesting more features (such as Morse code, SOS, strobe). I'll consider them one by one.

My flashlight app has 3 major functions.
(1) LED light : turn on your built-in LED flash to use as a torch.

A. Does your device have LED? Some Chinese devices cannot activate LED. See the unsupported devices list.

Q. Why does this app require camera permission?
A. LED is related to "camera and media". All flashlight apps require camera permission.

Q. Why does this app require internet permission?
A. It is a free version with ads.

Vibration Meter (v1.6) manual

Hello. I'm the chief developer of Smart tools co.,

Vibration Meter is in the 4th set of Smart Tools collection. It uses your acceleration sensor to measure vibrations or Earthquakes, and shows a reference.
The result is related to Modified Mercalli Intensity scale (MMI). Most embedded acceleration sensors are very unstable. Just use this app as an auxiliary tool.

※ How to calibrate

Most acceleration sensors are weakened easily, so that calibration is required once a year.

① Go calibrate menu.

② Shake your device as possible as you can. Increase / decrease its sensitivity so that max value reaches about 10-11.
③ Check for your unnecessary values when there is no movement (Zero-point correction).
④ Click [Cut Baseline] button and select an number.

⑤ Repeat ②-④ several times.


※ FAQ
Q. Can the app alert Earthquake?
A. It is possible but I don't recommend it. Maybe, within 2-3 days, your device will be heated and the sensor will be damaged.

Q. Though my phone did not move, the app showed 2-3.
A. Most sensors show meaningless data. Please cut off unnecessary value with [cut baseline] option.

Q. How to save the data?

A. It is free version. How about getting pro version? It can export 24 H data to a CSV file.

Q. What is the unit of vibration?
A. It has no unit, just the scale for reference.

Sound Meter (v1.7) manual

This app is a tool to measure sound (noise) level around you. It is using your embedded microphone. It should be called as a SPL(sound pressure level) meter, that is not related to frequency like dB(A) and dB(C).

※ Don't blame this app for Maximum Limitation
Most microphones are aligned to human voice (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB). It is enough for voice calls. But it occurs an issue of 16 bits microphone limitation.

Look at sound pressure in calibrate menu. It'll stop at 32767 (32767=2^15-1). Therefore, 16 bits microphones cannot measure above 96 dB (more link).

And more, the max becomes 80-90dB due to calibration. Galaxy S3-S5(81-84db), HTC Desire HD(85db), Galaxy Note(81/91db).

Most of Motorola and Amazon Fire devices can measure 96 dB fully. Some LG devices can measure at most 80 dB because of additional optimization (white noise reduction).

Last year, a german user suggested a trick in order to bypass hardware limitation. Add +30dB at calibrate menu, and close your microphone hole with your finger, so that you can measure a sound over 100dB. Try it out. :)

※ How to calibrate it ???

Since 2010, we had calibrated the app on 500+ android devices (Major Galaxy, LG, Xperia, Motorola and Nexus). It's a pity that the results were changed easily depending on OS version.

In order to calibrate the app correctly, you must compare it with an ACTUAL sound level meter. Otherwise, ensure that the measured value of a very quiet room is 30-35dB. If the result were out of range, you could add/reduce number at the calibrate menu.

It is an auxiliary tool for reference. Just enjoy it.


※ Level Nofitication
A lot of users, especially school teachers, want to know if their voices are loud. Turn on [Level Notification] option at the settings.
60dB+ : green, 70dB+ : pink,  80dB+ : red. Sound alarm cannot be used due to amplification.

※ FAQ
Q. It says "Unable to open microphone.".
A. The other app occupies your microphone. Restart your device.

Q. Where is the screenshot stored ?
A. /storage/sdcard0/smart-tools/, /mnt/sdcard/smart-tools/, /storage/emulated/0/smart-tools/... Surely, you can find it in your Gallery.

Q. I could hear nothing. But it points out 30-40dB.
A. The microphones can catch very low-frequency noise. 0 dB means vaccum (no air).

Q. Is the sound value dBA weighted?
A. Probably yes. The app calibrated with an actual SPL meter with db(A). But db(A) makes no sense because the result is not perfect.

Q. How to save the data?

A. Please get the pro version. It can save chart and export CSV file for MS-Excel.

Q. Galaxy S5 has 2 microphones. Which is the app using?

A. Maybe both. It's a pity that two microphones make the result inaccurate and unstable.

Metal Detector (v1.5) manual

Hello. I'm Android Boy.

This app is a tool to measure Magnetic Field Levels using a magnetic sensor (magnetometer). Many users are using it to find electrical wires and stud in the wall. First, watch the demonstration video of my fan.


Magnetic field level in nature is about 49μT (490mG). When any metal is near, the value will be increased. If this app does not work as you expect, please check the specifications and initialize your sensor.


※ How to use it ???
  - There is no special usage. Just open the app, and move around. The number will be changed. That's it.
  - The magnetic sensor responds to electronic products (TV, PC) due to electromagnetic waves.

※ Color grades of chart
① Green : Normal. Magnetic field level in nature within tolerance.

② Blue : Too low. The embedded sensor might be weakened because of phone heating and age. You should cool down your phone. Otherwise, replace the battery with new one.

③ Red : Too high. There is a metal object nearby. If the value is very high (+170μT), a vibration occurs. To stop it, click the stop icon. You can turn on alarm sound at the settings.



※ If it does not work properly...
  - Several new devices have no compass sensor. Please check your specifications.
  - A leather case with a magnetic "snap" can make the sensor out of order.
  - Restarting or factory reset will be helpful for initializing it.
  - If not solved, visit the customer center of your phone (Samsung, LG, Sony...)


※ Settings
 - Alarm level : Select the threshold value of alert.
 - Beep sound : choose from 4 different sounds.



※ FAQ
Q. This app does not work. Number is zero (0).
A. 3000+ devices had no magnetic sensor (Galaxy J, Moto G4 ...). Please check your specifications.

Q. Can it find gold?
A. Pure gold is classified as non-ferrous that has no magnetic field.

Q. Why the app cannot detect coins?
A. Most coins are made of copper, zinc, nickel and aluminium. They are non-ferrous metal.

Q. Can it find a hidden camera and ghost?
A. If they generate magnetic (electric) fields, this app can catch them. A lot of ghost hunters had downloaded this app, and they had experimented as a ghost detector.

Q. How far is the effective range?
A. It depends on the performance of your embedded sensor exactly. In my experience, its effective distance is at most 7-8 inches (15-20 cm).

Smart Level (v1.1) manual

For 4 years, I had no need to develop a spirit level because I already released a protractor app. In 2015, I found that most users would not install a protractor instead of a surface level even if they were similar.

It supports both portrait mode (for phones) and landscape mode (for tablets) unlike pro version.

※ Orientation sensor ??
Most level apps are using only an acceleration sensor. But this sensor has restrictions. When the slop is bigger than 60 degrees, the measurement can be inaccurate. In particular, it has a trouble to calculate diagonal tilt.

My level app found the best solution. Orientation sensor!! It calculates tilt using both magnetic sensor and acceleration sensor. The result becomes more reliable. I recommend that you turn on [Orientation sensor] option (if possible).

Several custom ROM and non-magnetic devices cannot activate orientation sensor. Please check your specifications and turn off this option.

Q.  (T스토어에서) 폰을 새로 바꿨어요. 다시 구입해야 하나요?
A. 단순 기기변경에는 무료재설치되지만, 유심이 변경되는 경우에 재구입하셔야 합니다. 자세한 내용은 T스토어 고객센터에 문의바랍니다.

Q. 다른 결제방법은 없나요?
A. 앱스토어의 자체적인 규정에 따릅니다. 통신사 결제, 신용카드 결제 등이 기본 지원됩니다.

Q. 주문을 취소할 수 있나요?
A. 구글 플레이에서는 구매후 15분 이내에 취소할 수 있습니다. 국내마켓의 경우 주문취소가 불가능하니, 먼저 구글 플레이에서 확인하시길 권장합니다.

Q. 매달 앱가격을 지불해야 해나요?

Q. 수평계가 작동하지 않습니다.
A. 일부 OS2.3이나 커스텀 ROM에서 일부 센서가 작동하지 않습니다. 설정에서 [방위센서]를 끄세요.

Q. 수평계의 오차보정이 잘 되지 않습니다.
A. 실수로 오차보정을 너무 많이 된 경우입니다. 설정초기화를 해 보세요.

A. 일부 기기는 마그네틱 센서가 없으니 먼저 사양을 확인해 보세요. 센서가 있다면, 내장센서가 고장났습니다. 자석을 기기 여기저기에 갖다 대 보세요. 리부팅이나 공장초기화로 센서를 초기화할 수 있습니다.

Q. 나침반이 계속 잘못된 방향을 가리킵니다.
A. 센서가 불안정하거나 노후화 되었기 때문입니다. 초기화하려면, 기기의 화면이 하늘을 향하도록 해서 수평으로 8자를 그리면서 휘휘 저어보세요. 정안되면 스마트폰 고객센터로 고고. ^^;

Q. 내 폰에는 뷰커버가 있습니다. 문제가 되나요?
A. 자석버튼을 가진 뷰커버 또는 똑딱이가 달린 가죽케이스는 나침반에 영향을 줍니다. 바로 벗겨 주세요.

Q. GPS좌표가 나오지 않습니다.
A. 아직 GPS가 활성화되지 않았습니다. 리부팅을 한 후, GPS 설정을 확인해 보세요.

Q. 주황색 삼각형은 무엇인가요?
A. 기기의 상단을 가리킵니다. 어떻게 기기를 잡아도 정확한 수직선을 찾아주는 용도입니다.

Q. 이 앱으로 몰래카메라나 유령을 찾을수 있나요?
A. 만약 찾는 물체가 자기장(전기장)을 생성한다면, 금속탐지 앱으로 찾을수 있습니다. 대부분은 벽에 숨겨진 전기선, 쇠막대(스터드), 땅 속의 파이프를 찾는데 사용합니다.

Q. 금이나 은을 찾을 수 있나요?
A. 아닙니다. 순수한 금과 은은 자기장이 없는 비철금속입니다.

Q. 동전에 반응하지 않습니다.
A. 동전은 대부분 니켈, 구리, 알루미늄으로 만듭니다. 역시 비철금속입니다.

Q. 마이크를 열 수 없다고 나옵니다. "Unable to open microphone.".
A. 다른앱이 마이크를 사용하고 있습니다. 기기를 껐다가 다시 켜 보세요.

Q. 왜 82dB 이상 올라가지 않는 것이 앱 버그인가요?
A. 정상입니다. 마이크는 제조사에 의해서 음성(300-3400Hz, 40-60db)에 최적화 되어 있습니다. 그리고, 최대값이 32767 (32767=2^15-1)으로 제한되어 있어 큰 소음은 인식하지 않습니다. 일상적인 소음에 대해서 참고용으로 사용하세요.

Q. 내 폰에서는 작동하지 않습니다.
A. 일부 구형폰에서는 SPL(소리 압력 수준계)기능을 지원하지 않아서 소음측정이 되질 않습니다. Xperia(X10mini, X8), 옵티머스원, ZTE, Huawei 등.

Q. 스크린샷과 CSV파일은 어디에 저장됩니까?
A. /sdcard/smart-tools/, /storage/sdcard0/smart-tools/, /mnt/sdcard/smart-tools/, /storage/emulated/0/smart-tools/ ...

Q. 어떻게 오차보정을 하나요?
A. 국내 모든 폰에 최적화했지만, OS버전에 따라서도 바뀝니다. 아주 조용한 방에서 측정값이 25~35dB가 되도록 오차보정 메뉴에서 보정해 주세요.

Q. 아무것도 들리지 않는대도 앱은 30~40dB을 가리킵니다.
A. 마이크는 아주 낮은 주파수에도 반응합니다. 0dB은 진공상태에서만 가능하답니다.

Q. 측정값의 종류는 dB(A), dB(C), SPL중에서 무엇인가요?
A. 이 앱은 dB(A)로 설정된 실제 소음측정기에 최적화되었습니다. 그러나, 측정값이 완벽하기 않기 때문에, 측정값의 종류를 따지는 것은 무의미 합니다.

Q. 어떻게 오차보정을 하나요?
A. 가만히 놔두어도 측정되는 값은 [최소값 보정] 옵션으로 삭제하세요. 그런 후, 최대값이 10~11이 되도록 오차보정메뉴에서 민감도를 조절하세요. 몇번 반복해 보세요.

A. 위젯을 삭제후 다시 설치하세요.

Q. LED를 켤 수 없습니다.
A. 기기에 LED가 있는지를 확인하세요. 일부 구형폰에서는 LED를 켤 수 없습니다.

Q. 왜 손전등에 카메라 권한이 필요합니까?
A. LED를 켜기 위해서는 앱에서 카메라를 열어야 합니다. 물론 촬영이나 저장은 하지 않습니다.

Q. 혹시 손전등이 나의 개인정보를 외부로 보내나요?
A. 절대 아닙니다. 저희는 구글마켓 등에서 검증받은 인기 개발자랍니다.
